Best Music for Kids Yoga Playlists
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” ~ Plato
Music is such a wonderful way to teach yoga to children!
Kids love to dance, move and sing. Music provides fun, playful cues for teaching yoga poses, especially for preschoolers. Music can set the tone for certain movements, as well as guide them through a yoga sequence. The children in my classes have their favorite songs which they ask me to play every class and they love to sing along! I like mixing up lively songs for stretching and fluid yoga poses with some soothing songs for relaxation. I’ve compiled my favorite kids yoga songs on several fun itunes playlists for many themed classes.
The Kids Yoga Essential Playlist includes the absolute MUST HAVE Yoga Songs for your kids classes.
These playlists are kid-tested and my little yogis ask me to play them in my classes all the time!
I am an iTunes and Amazon Affiliate and would really appreciate it if you use the links and Playlist links below to order your music.

Namaste Song (great for closing class and bowing Namaste)
Colors (a sweet lullaby for Relaxation time or closing circle)
Dance for the Sun also contains bonus yoga tracks with guided yoga sequences for the kids to follow along.
Yoga Child: A Peaceful Place Inside by Bingo Kids has lots of fun songs, movement, breathing and relaxation exercises to choose from.
Paint the Sky (A cool warm up exercise for stretching arms up and “painting” to the music)
The Butterfly and the Seagull (for Butterfly pose and flapping their “wings” in the air)
Savasana Song (prompts kids to lie down-“bellies, up, eyes closed, backs on the ground…”)
Snatam Kaur’s Feeling Good Today is a beautiful album which contains both lively and peaceful kids yoga music.
Two of my favorite songs are Longtime Sun and Make the Love Grow

Let’s Go on a Winter Yoga Adventure
In keeping with the Winter theme, this week my preschoolers and I went on a Winter Yoga Adventure!
After our first major snow storm of the year, my students were eager to share their favorite winter activities and how they PLAYed in the snow while they were home from school! When I asked the children what they love to do in winter, there was so much excitement and so many great answers. I wanted them to have the opportunity to enjoy these activities together as a class (indoors, of course)! As a Warmup, we did the WINTER POKEY from Mr. Jones Sing Along! They loved it!! We all had a blast singing, laughing and twirling around. After all that spinning, we were a little dizzy, so we all took a rest lying on the floor with our eyes closed. I had the children breathe in and feel the energy they had created in our warm up, and calm their bodies with the breath.
We were now ready to go on our Winter Yoga Adventure. We got on our imaginary sleds (our YOGA MATS) and went up and down hills through the snow…WHEEEEE!!!!
Then, one by one, the children picked one WINTER ACTIVITY or YOGA POSE to do with the class.
They all worked together to build and dress a SNOWMAN and then we held hands and circled around him singing Frosty the Snow Man. We had a blast having a snowball fight, ice skating, decorating the Christmas Tree (TREE POSE) and stretching to put the STAR on top, playing Leap Frog (FROG POSE) in the snow, doing some of our favorite YOGA POSES, warming up with VOLCANO BREATH and drinking our hot chocolate by the fire while singing some Christmas songs!
For SAVASANA, we made SNOW ANGELS. at first flapping our “angel wings” and then slowly becoming STILL. I guided them on a winter visualization where they were lying in bed watching the glistening snow falling outside their window and the stars twinkling in the sky, as they drifted off…then slowing bringing them out of relaxation by turning over to the side and hugging their knees into their chest, as they snuggled under their cozy covers, resting in that peaceful place where there minds and bodies were completely still.
Some of my favorite theme classes are the simplest…where all you need is a child’s imagination to have a whole lot of FUN!

Plant Your Own Garden
Teaching kids about gardening helps plant the seeds for self love and peace.
This week we explored a gardening theme in my yoga classes. Since the children have been learning about Nature and how things grow, it seemed like a great way to connect everything we have been learning through an interactive story. We began in circle time by sharing what grows in their gardens at home.
Then I introduced the story:
Are you ready to put on your gardening gloves because we are going to get messy in the soil!
First we cut the grass with our gardening shears. Next I taught them PLOW POSE so we could get the soil ready for planting. The children really enjoyed moving their legs in plow and then rolling back up to a seated position. We were now ready to dig a hole in the soil with our shovels so we could plant our seeds.
Let’s pretend that you are the little seed in the soil.
I had them come into CHILD’s POSE like a seed. I went around with my rain stick to make the sound of the rain as I watered the “seeds”. I asked them to feel what it would be like to grow and then peek out from the earth. The little plants began growing and taking in the light of the sun to grow taller into TREE POSE. We also grew into pretty FLOWERS.
I asked the children what else we might find in our garden and they came up with some of their favorite yoga poses including BUTTERFLY, RABBIT, BIRD, and FROG, as well as some very creative ideas, such as ladybugs, grasshoppers, ants and snails and spiders. We all had some laughs crawling, wiggling and hopping around like insects!
Let’s go inside and wash up!
We sat with our hands on our shoulders and “washed” our dirty clothes in the washing machine while making a swooshing sound and then “dried” them in the dryer, while rolling our arms in a circular motion.
After a long day of gardening, we were ready to relax in SAVASANA and I guided them through a visualization of them sitting in their gardens, looking around at what they had planted and taking in the sights and smells and sounds in their GARDEN!
I ended class with a song called In My Garden, that my friend Scott Massarky had created in collaboration with some children for a Peace Garden Mural Project. It’s a beautiful and catchy song that all the children loved and by the end of class, they were all singing along! To find out more about Scott’s amazing project, stop by my blog tomorrow because I will be posting a video of the song.
Stop and smell the flowers.
I even brought a live gerber daisy to my first teacher yoga classes this week. I placed it in the center of our yoga mat circle and told them it was a reminder that we are planting some new seeds by nurturing ourselves through yoga and relaxation. It was so rewarding to be able to provide some tranquility in the middle of a busy day for these preschool teachers and educators.

Peace Begins Inside
In honor of Martin Luther King’s Birthday, this week’s theme in my classes was PEACE.
I have been meaning to try one on Todd Parr’s books in my classes and found this awesome one called The Peace Book.
The colorful, quirky illustrations really capture the spirit of diversity and each page has a positive message about the many ways we can create PEACE in the world.
We began with a discussion about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The children shared about his “dream” for all people to get along and be nice to each other. I explained that we could help this dream of peace come true by finding that peaceful place INSIDE through our yoga, OMs, breathing and meditation.
The book has lots of YOGA POSES:
My kids are happy to play cards, video games or viagra samples watch DVDs on their laptops. Sildenafil citrate generic cialis from canada belongs to family called phosphodiesterease-5 blocker. The remedy is lowest prices viagra with success provided by qualified on-line preparation programs. viagra without prescriptions usa The most common side effects include headaches, indigestion, flushing and a runny nose.
We swam like Sharks and Fish, splashed with our Elephant trunks, slithered around like Snakes, barked in Downward, Upward and 3 Legged Dog, turned into a Buttefly (caterpillar), stretched out while Painting the Sky, offered a HUG to a friend and more… It was so cute to see the children expressing their love for one another.
The message at the end is that each one of us can help make the world a better place!
After SAVASANA, I played Elizabeth Mitchell’s Peace Like a River, which is a catchy, beautiful song that can be done with actions for younger children (see video below). For the last verse, we all held hands and made a CIRCLE of PEACE. I let them know that we can share the PEACE we have insdie with everyone around us and create PEACE in the world.

Bhakti Yoga~ The Path to LOVE
BHAKTI mean “devotion” or “pure love”. YOGA means “union” or “to connect”.
Bhakti Yoga is a practice of connecting with God, reestablishing a relationship with him through devotional service, in essence…SURRENDER TO GOD. They say Bhakti Yoga is the quickest path to peace and bliss. When one achieves union with God, one can experience peace.
I have been exploring what it means to SURRENDER to the Divine, to GOD. Having grown up Catholic, I had rejected the idea of GOD in my late teens and it has taken me over 20 years to reclaim a new found relationship with GOD. It’s not that I did not believe in a higher power, but I preferred to objectify it as the UNIVERSE. While I was fully conscious of my power to create my life, I felt estranged from God, separate and alone.
Through yoga, meditation and being of service to others by teaching and writing, I began to develop a personal relationship with GOD. This has allowed me to open myself up to trusting that God is present in my life. I know that He is supporting me on my path. There is less struggle and burden on myself because I am now CO-CREATING with the Divine.

It icks.org order viagra online is not the recent technique, rather an old one that allows the male to sustain a rigid erection during sexual intercourse.
Bhakti Yoga has allowed me to take that connection to a deeper level. I have always loved to sing, but when I am chanting, I can feel GOD’s presence in the room, in my heart, in the core of my being. It is like the entire room melts away and I am at ONE with GOD, at ONE with it ALL.
There is no separation…it is as if the energy that runs through our voices is the energy that runs through everyone and everything. Chanting the name of God in community at kirtan has brought me closer to the LOVE inside my own heart, GOD’s love which is always here.
Bhakti is a practice of LOVE…when all voices come together as ONE, the energy is electric, you can actually feel it vibrating through you and all around you. In that space, there is no choice but to SURRENDER to GOD.

Winter Yoga Fun!
BRRRRRRR…it’s cold out there and now that we’ve had our first snowfall, I wanted to treat my students to some WINTER YOGA FUN!
I usually buy my books, but I decided to brave the cold, so I made it out to my local library and found the perfect book for this week’s lesson: WHEN WINTER COMES by Nancy Van Laan.
For CIRCLE TIME, each child shared what they love about WINTER and what they like to do in the wintertime. Then we did a cute warm-up that was a variation of the HOKEY POKEY, but instead we called it the WINTER POKEY!! (You can find the lyrics here or just have the kids make up what they want to put on.)
I told them that we needed to get dressed for the cold weather and asked “What could we wear?”
They all chimed in with their ideas and one by one we warmed up our body parts!
We put our gloves in
we take our gloves out
we put our gloves on (pretend to put gloves on hands)

and we shake ’em (SHAKE HANDS) all about
We do the WINTER POKEY and we turn ourselves around
That’s what it’s all about!
After putting on our snow boots, coats, scarves, etc, some of my students even came up with silly ideas like being a REINDEER, putting antlers on, RUDOLPH (putting a red nose on) and SANTA (putting a beard on). I am always inspired by my kid’s imaginations, we laughed twirled around and had so much fun!
Then we had yoga story time. When Winter Comes is such a great book to teach kids about what happens to the natural world, the trees and flowers and animals too. After our Fun AUTUMN LEAVES LESSON last month, it was especially nice that the book started with the leaves falling to the ground…
It is full of poses: they pretended to be a TREE and the leaves falling to the ground, FLOWER wilting and then growing, crawling around like a CATERPILLAR going into its COCOON and turning into BUTTERFLY in Spring, Field MOUSE burrowing in a tunnel underground, FISH swimming to the bottom of a pond, DOG and ends with a child snuggled up warm in bed, which is the perfect prompt for Relaxation time.
I played a beautiful lullaby called If You Listen by Elizabeth Mitchell for the younger children and made up a guided visualization for the older ones. Maybe it’s because we tend to be more tired in the winter, but I was so happy to see my classes resting quietly and enjoying the stillness during SAVASANA.
